Charlton & Newbottle: The HISTORY of TWO VILLAGES

Charlton & Newbottle: the history of two villages  was published in 2000 and is the result of several years' research by the Charlton and Newbottle History Society.

The two villages fit well together:  Charlton is a village without church or manor, and Newbottle has a manor and church but no village.

The book looks at all sorts of different aspects of the villages' history:  farming and fields, houses and pubs, personal memories, the village school, census records and family histories.

In many ways Charlton is a very ordinary village but it provides a sample of all sorts of wider movements in society.

There is something for everyone here.
